Digital Marketing for Small Businesses ยท Part 3

Creating a Practical Content Strategy

Plan useful posts that educate, demonstrate, reassure and invite action.

Plan useful posts that educate, demonstrate, reassure and invite action.

What you will learn

  • Choose content themes for the business
  • Create a realistic publishing calendar
  • Write effective captions and calls to action

Before you begin

Use a real business only when you have permission to manage its information. Practise with a small budget or invented campaign first. Never publish customer information, account passwords, verification codes, private tokens or payment credentials.

Choose content pillars

Use three to five repeatable themes such as demonstrations, customer questions, behind-the-scenes work, product arrivals and care tips.

Each theme should help the target customer decide or succeed. Repeating useful themes is more sustainable than chasing every trend.

Plan the calendar

Choose a frequency the business can maintain. Assign a purpose, format, owner, deadline and destination to each planned item.

Create content in batches where practical, but leave room for current stock, seasonal needs and customer questions. Confirm facts before scheduling.

Write for action

Lead with the customer problem or useful result. Use short paragraphs, specific details and a call to one next step.

Avoid excessive capital letters, hashtags and unrelated keywords. Proofread names, prices, dates, telephone numbers and links before publishing.

Guided practice

  1. Select four content pillars.
  2. Plan seven posts across two weeks.
  3. Write one educational caption and one sales caption.

Knowledge check

  1. What makes a useful content pillar?
  2. Why should a calendar remain realistic?
  3. What should a call to action request?

Completion standard

Continue when you can complete the guided practice and explain the knowledge-check answers in your own words.
